US B1/B2 visa fees in 2026: what Indians actually pay
The US B1/B2 visa application fee is $185[source] per person, paid in rupees at the consular exchange rate. A new Visa Integrity Fee of $250[source] was created by a 2025 US law and has been rolling out post by post. Neither fee is refunded if you are refused.
Government fees
| Fee | Amount | Who pays | Refundable? |
|---|---|---|---|
| MRV application fee | $185[source] | Every applicant, including children | No |
| Visa Integrity Fee | $250[source] | Most nonimmigrant visa applicants, where collected | Refund process not yet clear |
| Reciprocity (issuance) fee | Depends on nationality | Indian B1/B2 applicants usually pay none | No |
The MRV fee is paid in rupees at the exchange rate set by the US Mission, which can differ from the bank rate. The fee receipt is linked to your profile and is usually valid for one year from payment.
The Visa Integrity Fee
The Visa Integrity Fee comes from the 2025 US budget law (H.R. 1). The law sets $250[source] as the minimum, with inflation adjustments in later years. In May 2026, Boston University's international office reported that some consular posts had begun collecting it alongside the MRV fee. The law describes a refund for visa holders who comply with the terms of their visa, but the refund procedure was still being worked out at that time. Before you pay, check the fee page of the US Embassy in India for whether and how it is collected at Indian posts.

Ways to waste money
- Paying an agent for a "guaranteed" visa. Nobody can guarantee one.
- Paying for bot-booked or resold slots. It breaks the scheduling terms and can get your profile blocked.
- Reapplying the next week with no changes after a 214(b) refusal. You pay the full fee again for the same outcome.
